Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir was born on 23rd November, 1965 in Limankara Town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. She attended Limankara Primary School from 1973 – 1979, she was admitted into Federal Government College, Maiduguri in 1979 uptil 1984 when she excellently passed her WAEC which eventually paved her way into the University of Maiduguri where she studied Chemistry & Mathematics. Later, through her carrier as a classroom teacher, she vigorously pursued her M.Sc and later Ph. D in Educational Philosophy.
She was the Head-Girl of Limankara Primary School, Prefect in-charge of School Shop and later Head Girl of Federal Government College Maiduguri. Even after completing her Secondary education, she was appointed President of the Federal Government College, Maiduguri Old Students Association (Unimaid Branch). She also served as General Secretary, Federal Government College Old Students Association, Borno State Chapter from 1989 – 1992.
She was appointed the Vice President, Gwoza Women Development Association in 1990 – 1994, she also become a pioneer member of the Women Association of UNIMAID in 1994. She was the Coordinator, Diploma Programme of the Department of Education, University of Maiduguri in 1994. Appointed General Secretary, National Council of Women’s Society (NCWS), Borno State Chapter from 1994 – 1996. The University of Maiduguri Alumni appointed her Director of Socials and also Financial Secretary of the UNIMAID ALUMNI. A full time member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) upto 2003 when she was elected to represent Gwoza Local Government at the State House of Assembly, Borno State.
Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir was appointed a Board Member for the Borno State Hospitals Management Board from 1998 – 2003. Board Member, Governing Council of Federal University of Technology, Owerri from 2000 – 2004, Member, Business Committee, University of Maiduguri, Member, Committee on the Establishment of University of Maiduguri Secondary School in 1995 – 1997 and Vice Chairman, Construction of 1000 Housing Estate Committee in 2009.
After the 2003 Elections, Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir was the Minority Leader in the State House of Assembly. She was later appointed Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Housing and Rural Electrification and Ministry of Education between 2005 to date.
Successfully and happily married to Alhaji Bashir H, Hamidu of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, Yola and a mother to three children. She enjoys Reading, Making Friends, Football (Fan of Arsenal)
